Let’s Talk About the Health Benefits of Turmeric

Let’s Talk About the Health Benefits of Turmeric

Growing up in India, turmeric is a spice that I was most familiar with. It was always present in our kitchen spice box and a pinch of turmeric infusion was always added to our vegetables, lentils and curry.  And it was also something that was packed, as part of my absolute essentials, in the two large suitcases I brought when I moved to the US for my graduate studies. It was and continues to be part of our daily diet.

Turmeric was the go-to solution for every problem in the body. Be it a cut, a bruise, joint pains, allergies or a cold. What is now enjoyed by everyone as the Golden Latte + a teaspoon of ghee was considered a perfect cure for a sore throat. To tell the truth, as a kid I never enjoyed the taste of it. I would throw all possible tantrums before I finally had to give in (because I knew, it did help me get better quickly) and finish my Haldi milk (turmeric infused milk with spices).

It is also a part of one of the pre-wedding ceremonies, where a turmeric paste is applied to the bride and the groom, to get their perfect beauty glow right before the wedding :) Turmeric is known to improve the skin's complexion, by bringing circulation and nutrition to the skin.

As I grew older and wiser, I truly started to appreciate the benefits of turmeric. And overtime I had also developed a taste for turmeric. Now, it has almost become a routine to have some turmeric with hot milk or water every night before going to bed.

Turmeric has been used for centuries in Ayurveda, the 5,000 year old natural healing system that complements yoga. There are many ancient Ayurvedic formulas utilizing turmeric. In Ayurveda, turmeric is believed to balance the three Doshas (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha).

There are so many benefits health benefits of Turmeric.

If you Google benefits of turmeric, you will find all the information you need from research papers, scientific studies, insightful blogs, nutritionists to miracle healing stories, all highlighting the innumerable benefits of Turmeric.

Some key health benefits of turmeric are..

It is a bad-ass anti-inflammatory.

It boosts and supports the immune system.

I love this quote from Divya Alter -  “Imagine turmeric as the best detergent for the central dishwasher of our organism. When our liver and blood are nice and clean, the rest of the body smiles.”

And so when we were creating our line of clean, high-vibe, ayurveda-inspired chocolates, it was obvious we had to infuse them with the spice of our life - Turmeric.
